WASHINGTON COUNTY — A Washington County Sheriff’s deputy was involved in a traffic crash Thursday night in New Minden, with the driver of the other vehicle reportedly fleeing from the scene.
According to sheriff’s reports, at approximately 9:45 p.m. Thursday, Deputy Sgt. Charles Carroll was struck while driving on State Route 177 in New Minden, by a pickup truck being driven by 23-year-old William M. Kellerman, of New Minden.
Kellerman then reportedly fled the scene and Illinois State Police was called to investigate. Kellerman was located a short time later and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, iIllegal transportation of alcohol and leaving the scene of an accident.
Kellerman was taken to the Washington County Jail pending the posting of bond. Carroll suffered minor injuries in the crash. He was treated and released from Washington County Hospital.
