FRANKLIN COUNTY — According to Franklin County Sheriff Don Jones, four people are in the Franklin County Jail on multiple meth-related charges, after a joint operation between local, state, and federal law enforcement revealed multiple meth labs at one residence.
Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies launched an investigation Thursday after information they had indicated the illegal production of methamphetamine.
Deputies were assisted in the investigation by the Southern Illinois Drug Task Force, Benton Police Department, ISP Meth Response Team, and the U.S. Marshal’s Service.
Law enforcement subsequently seized two separate meth labs at one residents and meth making materials at a second residence.
One subject was taken into custody on Thursday, 46-year-old Jacqueline D. Lowery, of Benton, and she was charged with Class X felony aggravated meth production with a child present, and Class X felony production of between 400 and 900 grams of meth. Lowery’s bail has been set at $200,000.
On Friday, authorities arrested 29-year-old Shaun W. Beasley, of Benton. Beasley has been charged with Class X aggravated participation in meth manufacturing and Class X unlawful possession of meth. His bail has also been set at $200,000.
Also arrested Friday is 43-year-old Jonathan A. Underwood, of Benton. Underwood is charged with Class 2 felony unlawful procurement of meth precursor, and his bail is set at $75,000.
The arrests began May 14, when 28-year-old Crystal R. Burgess, of Benton was arrested and charged with Class 2 felony possession of less than 15 grams of meth precursor. Burgess’ bail has been set at $40,000.
The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are anticipated.
