MOUNT VERNON — A traffic stop Saturday on Interstate 64 in Jefferson County resulted in Illinois State Police arresting two men when more than 150 pounds of cannabis was discovered in their vehicle.
According to ISP, a District 13 trooper stopped the truck for speeding, and while speaking to the occupants he noticed a strong odor of cannabis coming from inside the vehicle. A search of the vehicle was conducted and authorities reportedly discovered 154 pounds of high-grade cannabis hidden in a rear compartment of the truck.
Authorities then arrested the driver, 31-year-old Yunierqui Crespo, of Houston, Texas, and his passenger, 26-year-old Dainery Acosta-Bueno, of Tampa, Florida, for possession of cannabis, cannabis trafficking, and calculated criminal cannabis conspiracy.
Both men were taken to the Jefferson County jail, where they remain awaiting the formal filing of charges and the setting of bail.
