JEFFERSON COUNTY — We have confirmed a third bomb threat made at the Continental Tire Facility in Mt. Vernon. The first was made Friday, the second on Monday, and the latest was made Tuesday afternoon.

Jefferson County Sheriff Travis Allen says deputies responded around 3:40 Tuesday afternoon back to Continental Tire for a third time in just five days in reference to a bomb threat.

Allen says the Secretary of State Bomb Squad was also called back and took over the search of the building.

He commented that his department has tied up countless hours of public resources due to those threats, and that they will do everything to ensure the person behind the threats is apprehended and spends a long time in jail.

Allen notes that in today’s world they have to take each call very seriously, although none of the three threats had merit, they must consider each one a serious threat, as public safety is their number one concern.

He says his detective division is following up on reports of possible suspects.

Continental Tire released a statement Tuesday offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

If you have any information regarding any of these recent bomb threats, you’re urged to contact the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department at 618-244-8004, or Crime Stoppers at 618-242-8477.
