CHICAGO (AP) — Gov. Bruce Rauner has granted clemency petitions to five people and denied 153 other requests.

His office announced the action on Thursday afternoon, saying they’re part of dockets dating back to 2006.

Grantees included two individuals who were convicted of burglary, one of state benefits fraud and another of possession of a stolen vehicle.

Those granted clemency recently underwent background checks. A granted request means the petitioner can seek expungement of their conviction through the courts.

Rauner’s office says about 2,000 petitions remain from previous administrations and he’s developed a process to look at clemency petitions on a regular basis. Thursday’s set of petitions are the third the Republican governor has reviewed since taking office in January.
