CARLYLE LAKE — Organizers of the 23 Annual Great Kaskaskia River Duck Race scheduled for August 1, have announced the event has been cancelled, and not due to ThinkstockPhotos-89154255high water levels at the lake.

A cryptic message Monday on the Carlyle Lake Facebook page, simply stated that The Healthcare Foundation has announced the event has been cancelled, noting the decision was not made due to the high water elevations at Carlyle Lake, but not giving a reason for the cancellation.

When we attempted to call the number provided for the duck race on its website, we were informed all circuits were busy. We’ll continue to try to find answers as to why the decades-long event will not go on this year as planned.
