CENTRALIA — An early morning fire on Centralia’s south side has completely destroyed a building that once housed a racquetball facility.

Centralia firefighters responded around 12:45 Friday morning to the 1800 block of South Pine Street. They say the vacant pole building was fully involved when they arrived, and they focused their efforts on saving the nearby Froggie’s building and keeping the fire from spreading into the woods and field behind the structure.

Firefighters were on the scene for about two hours, with one truck remaining until 6 a.m. to handle hot spots. No injuries were reported, but strong winds made it difficult for firefighters to keep the fire contained to the racquetball facility.

The building, which was vacant but had utilities and some contents inside, was completely destroyed. Officials are attempting to find out who actually owns the building.
