The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office and the Vandalia Police Department posted on their respective Facebook pages Wednesday that Brenden Barger was wanted, and included photos taken from Barger’s Facebook page, but did not indicate why he was wanted.

A few hours later they removed the “wanted” posts and updated followers that Barger had been located and was in custody.

Barger was reportedly being placed under arrest around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday when he was able to escape and was last seen running southbound past the Vandalia American Legion.

He was reportedly wearing a red sweatshirt and blue jeans at the time of the alleged escape. People were asked to be cautious, and keep their cars and doors locked.

Barger was ultimately captured and was formally charged later Wednesday in Fayette County Court with Class 2 felony aiding/abetting/possessing/selling a stolen vehicle, felony escape from a peace officer, and burglary, as well as misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
