MARION COUNTY — A 52-year-old Centralia man was sentenced Thursday in Marion County Court to four years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, after he pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon.

Robert Potter was given credit for 72 days served in jail and was released to furlough until Monday when he must report to the Marion County Jail for transfer to IDOC.

Potter was originally charged in the case with two counts Class 1 felony possession of narcotics near a school, public housing or a park, as well as Class 2 being a felon in possession of a firearm with a prior conviction. Per the plea agreement, the two more serious Class 1 charges were dismissed in exchange for the guilty plea to the Class 2 charge.

Potter also pleaded guilty in a separate case to felony driving while license revoked or suspended with between 4 and 9 prior convictions. He was sentenced in that case to a concurrent 3-year prison term and a Class 2 felony charge of aggravated 4th DUI in that case was dismissed.

In a third case charging Potter with felony possession of meth precursors and possession of a controlled substance, Potter pleaded guilty to one of the two charges and was sentenced to time served and 2-years probation, as well as was ordered to complete drug and alcohol treatment and pay court fines and fees.
