SPRINGFIELG — A spokesman for Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner is joining Republican presidential candidate John Kasich’s campaign.
Mike Schrimpf, Rauner’s deputy chief of staff for communications will serve as Kasich’s communications director, Politico reporter Natasha Korecki reported Sunday.
Kasich finished in fifth place in the South Carolina primary on Saturday, behind Donald Trump, Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz and Jeb Bush.
Bush dropped out of the race on Saturday night after his poor finish in the primary, but Kasich plans to stay in the race.
Lance Trover will now move into the spot of deputy chief of staff for communications in the Rauner administration, while Richard Goldberg will serve as Deputy Chief of Staff for Legislative Affairs and Strategic Initiatives.
