Marcus Currie was on parole from the Illinois Department of Corrections at the time of his June 2015 arrest in Fayette County on Class 1 felony possession of between 15 and 100 grams of cocaine.

According to court records, Currie was released last May from the Vandalia Correctional Center, after serving just over a year and a half of a six year prison sentence.

He was convicted in 2013, after pleading guilty in Marion County to a Class X felony for manufacture with the intent to deliver cocaine near a school, public housing or park. Currie was returned to IDOC custody following his Fayette County arrest and has since completed that sentence.

Upon his release from state custody Currie was returned to the Fayette County Jail, and in January, Judge Don Sheafor found Currie guilty of the Fayette County charge against him.

Since dismissing his attorney Currie will be responsible for filing all pre-sentencing motions and the case remains set for a March 18 sentencing hearing.
