Sheriff identifies victim of Tuesday’s Belle Rive shooting, investigation continues

JEFFERSON COUNTY — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the shooting Tuesday night of a 20-year-old man at at Belle Rive residence.

According to Sheriff Travis Allen, Stepfon Smith was shot in the neck at 1415 North Abbot Lane in Belle Rive. Allen says deputies received a 911 call just before 7 p.m. in reference to the shooting.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies, along with Illinois State Police, Ina police, and Litton’s Ambulance responded to the call. Upon arrival they found Smith had been shot in the neck. He was first taken to a Mt. Vernon hospital and was later airlifted to St. Louis University Hospital. He was earlier listed in stable condition.

The shooting remains under investigation.
