UNION COUNTY — Illinois State Police has released the names of the two people killed in a Sunday morning crash on Interstate 57 in Union County.

According to ISP, around 11:10 a.m. Sunday, 49-year-old Tonya K. Mayo of Fort Smith, Arkansas, was driving her car south on I-57 when she left the roadway and crossed the median into the northbound lanes of traffic.

The car then struck a semi, driven by 26-year-old Rolando J. Miranda, of Mexico, and was run over by the semi’s trailer causing fatal injuries to Mayo and her 8-year-old passenger.

Miranda was not hurt and refused medical treatment.

No charges have been filed at this time.
