FAYETTE COUNTY — A 33-year-old Nokomis man has been sentenced to 12-years in prison on a conviction for Class X home invasion.
A Fayette County jury found Christopher Scholes guilty in March following a two day trial on charges of Class X felony home invasion causing injury, Class 3 felony aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, Class 4 criminal trespass to a residence with a person present, and misdemeanor causing a child to be endangered.
The jury found Scholes guilty of home invasion and criminal trespass, but not guilty of aggravated battery. The misdemeanor charge was dismissed.
Judge Don Sheafor on Friday sentenced him to 12 years in prison on the home invasion conviction but issued no sentence on the Class 4 lesser charge per truth in sentencing.
Scholes was accused of leaving a 4-year-old child on the porch of a home as he entered a Ramsey residence in May 2016, subsequently striking one of the homeowners in the face with a closed fist.
Scholes had been heldin the Fayette County Jail since his 2016 arrest, with bail set at $250,000.
