JEFFERSON COUNTY — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public that as it’s getting close to tax time, scammers are busy, again.

The sheriff’s office warns of a recent scam in which a computerized message is calling people and claiming to be the IRS. The message claims the person will be arrested if they don’t respond to their call.

Do not call them back; instead report the telephone number to the IRS scam hot line at 1-800-829-1040.

Speak with your elderly friends and family about this for they prey on them believing they are easy targets.
