CENTRALIA — A 41-year-old Centralia man was reportedly tasered three times last week before being taken into custody by Marion County Sheriff’s deputies for alleged aggravated assault.
According to reports, Jason Hoffman was acting strangely Thursday night when he placed a young child in a vehicle and attempted to leave a home on Old Salem Road.
A concerned family member contacted law enforcement. Upon their arrival, they were told Hofman had been hitting a propane tank with a large log and throwing things at passing cars.
When told Hoffman he couldn’t leave with the child, he reportedly walked aggressively toward the deputy and was ultimately tased, which caused him to fall to the ground.
Hoffman allegedly got back up and again charged the deputy before being tased the second time. However, before the deputy could place Hoffman in handcuffs, he had to be tased a third time.
The deputy reported that on the way to the jail, Hoffman threatened to kill him and others involved in the incident. Illinois State Police and county correctional officers assisted in getting Hoffman into the jail where he remains.
