Gov. Bruce Rauner said Wednesday that Maggie Hickey will depart the office in mid-March.

Hickey is a former assistant U.S. attorney. She became executive inspector general in 2015, where she was responsible for investigating misconduct complaints against the executive branch, state agencies and more than 300 boards and commissions.

Hickey led a health care fraud elimination task force that Rauner says saved more than $450 million. She also led an investigation of the Department of Children and Family Services that found ethical lapses under the agency’s former director.

Rauner says “her objectivity and fairness can be a model for public servants.”

Hickey will join Schiff Hardin LLP as a partner in its Chicago office.
