GALESBURG, Ill. — A 26-year-old Chicago man serving time in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the attempted murder and armed robbery of a Flora woman briefly escaped custody while seeking medical care at a Galesburg hospital early Friday.

Prince Uche, also known as Lucas Brown, reportedly ran from the hospital after receiving care for head trauma.

He reportedly placed a metal object to the throat of an IDOC guard and ordered the guard to unshackle him. The guard refused and Uche then asked for his handcuff keys, which he received.

Officers were able to find Uche’s yellow hospital gown, set of keys, hospital wires and leg shackles in backyards of nearby Galesburg homes.

Galesburg police found him naked, crouching between two vehicles. He threw two items away from his body after police commands and was taken into custody without incident.

The items were a knife and a fork that had three of its four prongs removed.

Uche was sentenced in 2015 in Clay County court to 17 years in prison for the attempted murder of a Flora woman.

According to court records, he pleaded guilty to stabbing the woman at her home and taking her credit card.

Truth in sentencing guidelines require Uche to serve 85 percent of his 17 year sentence. He was given credit for 96 days served and ordered to pay more than $88,000 in restitution to his victim.
