CLINTON COUNTY — A request for bond reduction was denied in Clinton County court Wednesday and it was instead was more than doubled for a 25-year-old Carlyle man charged with multiple bomb-related and weapons charges.
Bail was increased Wednesday from $100,000 to $250,000 for Kyle Matthews after prosecution submitted exhibits in the case.

The request was denied during a first appearance in Clinton County court on two counts possession of a bomb, bomb shell, or grenade, and one count possession of a silencer – all are Class 3 felonies.
Matthews was arrested March 30 when a search warrant was served at a location in rural Keyesport. Two others who were at the home when the warrant was executed have been released.
The search warrant was obtained following an investigation that was launched after the sheriff’s department received a report last month of a man who was in a Carlyle business Saturday night with a suspicious object.
The male reportedly told others that the object was a homemade bomb. The object appeared to be a pipe bomb made of white PVC pipe.
The investigation ultimately uncoered Matthew’s name and a location in rural Keyesport where he was staying. The sheriff’s office had received several reports in recent weeks of loud explosions in that same area.
A search warrant was ultimately obtained for the location and officials with an ILEAS team, ATF, FBI, Secretary of State Bomb Squad, and the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office executed that warrant.
Bomb making materials, bomb components, a large number of firearms, and ammunition were reportedly discovered during the search of the residence.
If Matthews is able to post $25,000 cash bond he will be required to sumit a waiver of extradition, seek a mental health evaluation by a psychiatrist recommended by probation, abstain from consuming alcohol or other intoxicants, and will be subject to random testing and residential searches by probation.
He’s next scheduled to appear in court April 25 for a preliminary hearing.
