CLAY COUNTY — A 67-year-old Clay City man was killed Tuesday night in a one-vehicle, fatal crash on US 45 approximately three miles south of Lousiville.
William J. Viehmeyer of Clay City was attempting to pass another vehicle and lost control of his 1995 Nissan Pathfinder.
The vehicle traveled off the roadway to the left and overturned multiple times ejecting Viehmeyer and his 43-year-old passenger, Randall R. Helms Jr. of Louisville.
Viehmeyer was pronounced dead at the scene. Helms was airlifted to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana and ticketed for failure to wear a seat belt.
U.S. 45 was closed for approximately 4 1/2 hours, with traffic rerouted during the crash investigation and scene clean up. The crash occurred at 7:04 p.m.
