PALATINE, Ill. (AP) — Officials at a suburban Chicago high school sent a freshman student home for not wearing a mask. Sheri Urlacher says Fremd High School in Palatine dismissed her 14-year-old daughter on Friday when she refused to put on a mask offered by a school official.

She says her daughter returned to school later that day wearing a mask. She says it is her daughter’s right to choose what’s best for her body, and that decision is not for the school or government.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker says students from preschool through 12th grade must wear masks to slow the spread of COVID-19.
