CENTRAILA — A 66-year-old Centralia woman was pulled from her burning home around 9:15 Wednesday morning after firefighters and paramedics had responded to the 1010 Bond Street home for a medical alert.

Vicky Roe was reportedly unconscious when a Lifestar Ambulance paramedic first attempted to pull her from a couch near the front door of the home but had to turn back.

A Centralia City firefighter then entered the home and was able to pull the woman from the home. CPR was quickly given to Roe once they had her outside.

She was taken to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia but she was ultimately airlifted to St. John’s Mercy Hospital Burn Center in St. Louis for treatment of smoke inhalation and burns to her body.

When firefighters and ambulance personnel first arrived on the scene they reportedly noted smoke coming from the home.

The fire was apparently confined to the couch where the woman was found and to a nearby wall but had mostly gone out on its own before their arrival.

Heavy smoke and heat damage, however, was reported throughout the mobile home which was likely destroyed.

Smoking materials were reportedly found near the couch along with an oxygen tank likely were the cause of the fire, but the State Fire Marshal’s office will list the fire as undetermined in the cause.
