CENTRALIA — Bond has been set at $1 million for a 44-year-old Centralia man arrested in connection with an April shooting in the 900 block of East Kell in Centralia.

According to Centralia police, a Marion County warrant was issued for Nathan J. Johnson in connection to an April 21, 2022, incident in which a woman was shot in the face.

Police say they had quickly responded to the shooting and worked to preserve the scene and that the victim was immediately transported to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment before being transferred to a St Louis area Hospital.

CPD officers and detectives began to interview witnesses and obtain possible video in the area. However, due to the severity of the victim’s injuries, it took weeks before detectives could speak with her.

After submitting a completed investigation to the Marion County State’s Attorney’s Office, a $1 million arrest warrant was issued for Johnson and authorities continued to search for him.

Then with assistance from the US Marshal’s Office, CPD was able to Johnson at a residence in the Belleville area. He was reportedly taken into custody without incident and transported to the Marion County Jail.
