Danny L. Dunavan, 76, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 7:28 pm April 25, 2023 at his home.

He was born July 31, 1946 in Mount Vernon to the late Lee A. and Cora Belle (Adcock) Dunavan. Danny married Henrietta (Richardson) Dunavan in 1964 at Marcoe Church. They were blessed with 59 years of marriage.

In addition to his beloved wife, Danny is survived by his daughters, Tammy Beasley of Kilgore, Texas and Pam Delaney and husband, Jeff of Wylie, Texas; son, Dean Dunavan of Dix, Illinois; grandchildren, Brittani Lloyd, Brice Lowery, Whitnie Rhame, Chelsea Shell, Mariah Reever, Abigail Miller, and Titus Beasley; and several great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Danny was preceded in death by his brother, Dale Dunavan; and son-in-law, Steve Beasley.

Danny worked  at the Mount Vernon Stove Foundry. Later, he worked as the head of maintenance at Central Christian Church in Mount Vernon for over 30 years. He and his wife, Henrietta, served as pastors for many years. He also served many years  in prison ministry. The last several years, Danny pastored at Friendship of Faith Church in Mount Vernon. He helped establish the soup kitchen which fed many families in need. Danny was a kind-hearted, caring, compassionate man. He loved people, but loved the Lord more than anything.

A Visitation will be held Saturday, April 29, 2023 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will be held Sunday, April 30, 2023 at 1:30 pm at Hughey Funeral Home with Mr. J. Howard Kraps and Mr. Randy Sells officiating. Interment will follow at South Hickory Hill Cemetery in Mount Vernon. Memorials may be made in Danny’s honor to the Soup Kitchen at Friendship of Faith Church.
