JEFFERSON COUNTY — Two Mt. Vernon men have been formally charged in Jefferson County Court with Class X Felony Armed Robbery after an incident in which they allegedly robbed a confidential police informant at knife point.

According to police, 43-year-old Bobby G. Berner and 49-year-old Michael A. Jones were arrested following a May 23 incident, in which Berner allegedly took money from the individual by threatening the imminent use of force.

Jones is also accused in the crime, but his charge alleges that he had accountability for the crime. He was also charged with felony unlawful possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver and unlawful possession of methamphetamine.

Both men are being held in the Jefferson County Jail. Berner’s bail is set at $75,000 and Jones’ bond is set at $77,000.
