COOK COUNTY — A 63-year-old former employee of the Illinois Department of Human Services is accused of stealing more than $300,000 from the department.

Debra Moore was arrested Wednesday and charged with felony theft and official misconduct, according to a statement from Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s office.

Moore was taken to the Chicago Police Department where she was processed. She appeared in the Cook County Circuit Court on Thursday and was held in lieu of $50,000 bail.

According to Illinois State Police, Moore was arrested after an Illinois Office of Executive Inspector General investigation revealed that on at least three occasions between March 1, 2006 and July 14, 2013, Moore allegedly knowingly and intentionally took more than $300,000 from DHS.

Authorities claim Moore sold LINK cards to friends and relatives, and added unauthorized benefits in exchange for cash while she was an IDHS caseworker at the Woodlawn Family Community Resource Center.

Between 2004 and 2013, Moore gave more than $300,000 in unauthorized benefits to people who were not eligible to receive them, officials claim.
