WILLIAMSON COUNTY — Illinois State Police responded Thursday afternoon to a crash involving a car and a school bus in Williamson County.

ISP in DuQuoin say the crash happened around 1:10 p.m. on Bundyville Road at Travis Court in Herrin.

Accident reports say 51-year-old Laurie A. Mosier, of Cypress was driving the school bus north on Bandyville Road and was stopped at the rail crossing near Travis Court, when a car driven by 40-year-old Stacy A. Meracle, of Herrin, failed to stop and struck the rear of the school bus.

Mosier was not injured, but Meracle suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.

The northbound lane of Bandyville Road was closed for about 30 minutes while a crash investigation and scene cleanup were conducted. Meracle’s car was towed from the scene, while the bus was driven away.

State police cited Meracle with failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.
