CHICAGO (AP) — The trial of a Chicago police commander accused of shoving a gun into a suspect’s throat is set to begin.

On Tuesday, a judge is expected to hear evidence in the trial of Glenn Evans. Evans is charged with aggravated battery and official misconduct for allegedly shoving the barrel of his gun down the throat of Rickey Williams and threatening to kill him in 2013.

Evans was charged after Williams’ DNA was found on Evans’ gun.

But prosecutors acknowledge Williams failed to identify the alleged assailant in a photo array.
The trial comes amid intense scrutiny of the department since the release of a video that shows Officer Jason Van Dyke fatally shooting teenager Laquan McDonald. Van Dyke is charged with first-degree murder.
