JEFFERSON COUNTY — Law enforcement in Jefferson County had their own high-speed chase Friday night that began in Sesser and eventually wound up in Mt. Vernon.
According to reports, Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies and Mt. Vernon police were assisting Sesser police with a vehicle chase shortly after 8 p.m. Friday.
The chase began when Sesser police attempted to stop a Chevy coupe for traffic violations, but the driver failed to stop and instead led officers on a high-speed chase.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies entered the chase in the Waltonville area. Stop strips were deployed, but not in time to stop the vehicle.
As the car entered Mt. Vernon around Illinois Highway 148 and Wells Bypass, city police also deployed stop strips, but they failed to stop the suspect vehicle.
Police reports indicate the suspect vehicle was located later Friday night, but the suspect’s name was not immediately available.
